2015 VRC Oaks The Target for Sagaronne

Tony Edmunds was understandably thrilled with the results posted by Sagaronne through the recent Brisbane Winter Carnival, and has revealed the talented filly will be set for Group 1 feature races through the Spring Carnival, including the 2015 VRC Oaks (2500m) in November.

Sagaronne more than stamped her claims as one to watch through an impressive and consistent debut campaign; highlighted by a competitive second behind Press Statement in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben last time out on June 6th.

Having run second to Rudy in a talent-rich barrier trial late last week, Edmunds told AAP the daughter of Real Saga has taken huge benefit from her time away from racing and will be set on a path towards the 2015 VRC Oaks upon resuming in Brisbane within the next fortnight.

“It was a nice trial as she tacked on before the corner and made ground down the middle of the track,” Edmonds said.

“I am really going to give it another week or so before I make a final decision. I want to see how the weather goes and how the tracks come up.

“There is a race for her at Doomben in two weeks. But a week later there is the Furious Stakes in Sydney and in Melbourne there is also a suitable three-year-old race.

“The VRC Oaks is our main target but she is also entered for the Thousand Guineas and the Caulfield Classic as well.”

Debuting to racing for seventh in the First National Handicap (1200m) on the Gold Coast in early January, Edmunds’ decision to skip the Autumn Carnival with Sagaronne paid immediate dividends when the filly returned in May for a maiden win in the Tradies Day Plate (1200m).

Having made a successful transition to black type racing in her only other start prior to the JJ Atkins, Sagaronne charged home to take out the Listed Phoenix (1350m) on May 30th.
