Sadler Eyeing 2015 VRC Oaks with Bengal Cat

July 7th, 2015

Trainer John Sadler has been understandably thrilled with the results posted by Bengal Cat through her short racing career so far, and revealed the two-year-old is on trial for a campaign geared towards the 2015 VRC Oaks (2500m) in Saturday’s Listed Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) at Flemington.

Bengal Cat steadily built to the task through her first two starts but quickly stamped her claims as one to watch when delivering a talented field defeat in the Murray Cox 2.y.o Handicap (1400m) last time out on June 27th.

Confident he has the horse to post a maiden black type victory in Saturday’s Taj Rossi Series Final Sadler told AAP he believes the rising three-year-old is looking for more distance and appears a realistic 2015 VRC Oaks contestant.

“I thought she was pretty good last start and I’m hopeful of her maybe turning into something,” Sadler said.

“Whether she is going to or not, we might get a good chance to see that on Saturday because it’s going to be a nice little race.

“I see 17 nominations and about six chances, I reckon.

“I was hoping for a good field, a really strong field, so that we can get a bit of a guide as to whether we’re kidding ourselves about the spring or not.”

Sadler is set to be represented by a good contingent of live chances at Flemington on Saturday, but remains most excited by Bengal Cat.

“I’ve got some horses that are in form, just like a lot of horses that are going there on Saturday,” Sadler said.

“It’s a great days racing for the middle of winter.”

Unlucky to be blocked for a run and sixth in the Jim’s Antennas Maiden Plate (1000m) on debut on January 18th, Bengal Cat returned this time for a credible third in the Pendragon @ Think Big Stud Handicap (1200m) in her only other start prior to the Murray Cox Handicap.
